Milo was originally born and raised in Chengdu, Sichuan. He came to the US for college and worked in the oil & gas industry for 12 years. Always having a passion for cooking and food, starting in December 2021, Milo began serving Sichuan cuisine staples with his own twist at Houston local farmers markets during the weekends. In the summer of 2024, with the encouragement of his lovely wife, Cydny, Milo quit his job and opened bashi, his first restaurant.
bā shì (巴适)is one of the most widely used phrases in Sichuan dialect and represents a contented and optimistic attitude towards life. The word “Bashi” is a key to the life philosophy of Sichuan people. Bashi is a praise based on the person’s own experience and feelings about the good side of the things. It’s the ultimate exclamation of joy, a vibe, and the comfiest of comfort zone. And that’s where we want you to be when enjoying our Sichuan inspired specialities.
Our food is mainly influenced by Sichuan flavors, with a touch of our own twist. UNESCO declared Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan, to be a City of Gastronomy in 2011 to recognize the sophistication of its cooking. Its cuisine has bold flavors, particularly the pungency and spiciness resulting from liberal use of garlic, ginger, chili peppers, Doubanjiang (fermented spicy broad bean paste), as well as the unique flavor of Sichuan peppercorn, and other various spices.
